Nestled within the rural landscape of Glenorie, this bespoke family residence reimagines the contemporary Australian farmhouse through a refined architectural lens. Designed by ALAï Architecture + Interiors, the home embraces the relaxed character of country living while delivering the sophistication, comfort and functionality expected of a modern luxury residence.

Inspired by the surrounding acreage and natural landscape, the architecture is composed of a series of gabled forms that create a timeless silhouette while responding to the scale and openness of the site. Expansive glazing, soaring raked ceilings and generous outdoor entertaining spaces establish a seamless connection between the home and its environment, allowing natural light and landscape to become integral elements of everyday living.

Project Description

The Glenorie Residence was envisioned as a modern farmhouse that celebrates simplicity, warmth and craftsmanship.

The architectural language combines traditional rural forms with contemporary detailing, resulting in a home that feels familiar yet distinctly modern. White masonry, natural timber cladding, standing seam metal roofing and exposed timber beams create a rich palette of textures that age gracefully and complement the surrounding landscape.

At the heart of the home is an expansive open-plan living, dining and kitchen space beneath a dramatic vaulted ceiling. Exposed timber trusses draw the eye upward, creating volume and warmth while framing panoramic views across the gardens and outdoor entertaining areas. The kitchen forms the social centre of the home, anchored by a generous stone island, handcrafted timber cabinetry and carefully layered natural materials.

Large glazed openings dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors, allowing family life to extend naturally onto covered terraces, landscaped gardens and the resort-style swimming pool. Every room has been carefully oriented to maximise daylight, passive ventilation and views across the property, ensuring the home performs as beautifully as it looks.

Private spaces continue the same restrained material palette, with warm timber flooring, textured stone, soft linen finishes and muted earthy colours creating a calm and restorative atmosphere. Bathrooms evoke the feel of a boutique retreat through natural stone flooring, brushed brass fittings, bespoke timber joinery and layered ambient lighting.

The result is a residence that embraces the enduring qualities of farmhouse architecture while providing the flexibility, openness and refined detailing suited to contemporary Australian family life.
