Nestled within the leafy streets of Kyle Bay, Sydney, this contemporary residence is a study in sculptural simplicity, refined detailing and timeless Australian living. Designed by ALAï Architecture + Interiors, the home balances bold architectural expression with warm, human-centred interiors, creating a residence that is as functional as it is visually striking.

The architectural form is defined by soft curves, clean geometric volumes and a finely crafted vertical screening element that filters light, enhances privacy and creates a dynamic façade throughout the day. Generous glazing, soaring double-height spaces and carefully framed views establish a strong connection between the home and its landscaped surroundings, allowing natural light to become an integral part of the architecture.

Project Description

The design explores the relationship between architecture, light and movement through a restrained palette of natural materials and sculptural forms.

The residence is organised around a dramatic double-height entry, anchored by a sweeping curved staircase that serves as both circulation and architectural centrepiece. More than simply connecting levels, the staircase becomes a sculptural element, complemented by cascading pendant lighting that enhances the sense of verticality and arrival.

The exterior composition contrasts soft rendered curves with crisp rectilinear forms, creating a contemporary façade that is both elegant and timeless. A custom vertical batten screen wraps the upper level, providing passive solar control, privacy and visual depth while softening the scale of the building. This layered façade responds to changing daylight conditions, producing ever-changing patterns of light and shadow.

Inside, the interiors are intentionally calm and understated. Warm limestone flooring, textured walls, natural timber finishes and muted neutral tones create a sophisticated backdrop for everyday living. Floor-to-ceiling glazing floods the home with natural light while strengthening the relationship between interior spaces and landscaped gardens beyond.

Open-plan living, dining and entertaining spaces flow effortlessly throughout the ground floor, encouraging connection while maintaining distinct zones for family life and entertaining. Every room has been carefully proportioned to maximise openness, comfort and flexibility without sacrificing intimacy.
